You’ve landed a job in Buckhead but don’t want to live directly in Buckhead. Buckhead Village is convenient and well-developed, but it’s expensive, and many young professionals want a neighborhood that’s more affordable with more Atlanta character and a social scene near the other areas they enjoy like Piedmont Park and Midtown.

The good news is that Atlanta's most livable neighborhoods are within two to five miles of Buckhead’s center. We’ve compared eight of the best neighborhoods near Buckhead for commuters based on walkability, convenience, safety, cost, and restaurants and nightlife.

For reference, we will be comparing commutes to Buckhead Village as it marks the heart of the neighborhood.

Ansley Park

Pros:

Cons:

Ansley Park is the neighborhood between Piedmont Park and Buckhead. It sits just below I-85, providing easy transit to downtown. Ansley Park is a bit of a hidden gem in Atlanta, being a residential neighborhood without much traffic but within proximity to Buckhead, Piedmont Park, and Midtown.

Anchored by Ansley Golf Club, residents of Ansley Park benefit from quiet surroundings and neighborhood pocket parks like Winn Park. The BeltLine runs along the border of the neighborhood, always giving residents a place to walk or bike.

Ansley Park has two major shopping centers, one at each end of the neighborhood: Colony Square and Ansley Mall, which include restaurants, a Publix, and a Kroger.

Find nightlife less than a mile away in Midtown or on Piedmont Avenue. A commute to Buckhead Village is a simple 3- to 4-mile drive north via Peachtree Street or Piedmont Avenue, where you can pick up a morning coffee or after-work happy hour without straying far from your route.

If you’re looking for an apartment with the best location for Buckhead commuters in Ansley Park, check out Treeline Ansley. These modern apartments are on the northern end of the neighborhood right next to the BeltLine, providing the shortest route to Buckhead and the easiest BeltLine access.

Pros:

Cons:

The Lindbergh neighborhood sits in the southern portion of Buckhead, bordering I-85 and GA-400. It is anchored by convenience, as it’s near Midtown and Buckhead and has the easiest MARTA access outside of Midtown.

If living here, you’ll have a quick trip to a Target and a Publix in Peachtree Hills, as well as good nightlife spots like The Painted Pin and Tongue & Groove nearby.

Many who live in this area are recent grads, as the neighborhood is affordable, has good transit access, and has new quick-casual restaurants.

Buckhead workers benefit from an easy one-mile commute. The only potential concern is safety, which tends to be an issue with transit-based neighborhoods. Though every experience is different, do your research and explore the neighborhood yourself. While there are sidewalks, walking alone at night in this neighborhood is not recommended.

Pros:

Cons:

Near Bobby Jones Golf Course are the small residential neighborhoods of Collier Hills and Ardmore. These neighborhoods are considered an entry point for Buckhead homeowners. Here, you’ll see a blend of small cottage homes and garden-style and mid-rise apartment communities.

Living in Collier Hills or Ardmore means residential safety, access to many trails and parks, and only a two to three-mile commute to Buckhead on Peachtree Street, as well as easy access to I-75.

Residents will enjoy walking on the Northside BeltLine trail, Bobby Jones Golf Course trail, and Tanyard Creek trail, which are all far less crowded than Piedmont Park. The closest grocery stores will be in bordering neighborhoods, though you still won’t have to travel far to find a Publix or Kroger.

Fortunately, there are tons of restaurants on Peachtree Road, where you’ll find anything from fast-casual lunch options to date-night dinner spots.

The downside? This otherwise peaceful neighborhood experiences high traffic on Collier Road during rush hours, and other than Peachtree Street, there is very little walkability or centralized commercial areas.

Pros:

Cons:

The Peachtree Hills neighborhood is catty-corner to Lindbergh and Bobby Jones Golf Course. This area is very convenient for executing a daily routine, with many grocery stores, restaurants, gyms, and commercial plazas.

Peachtree Shopping Center, Peachtree Battle, and restaurants along Peachtree Road make this neighborhood excellent for those who don’t like to drive long distances for daily needs. Buckhead commuters can take Peachtree Road only two to three miles to work.

There are several apartment options in the neighborhood. Most are older, garden-style communities with safe sidewalks outside for getting a coffee or grabbing a quick bite, depending on which road your apartment is on. Peachtree Road has the most walkable options.

Peachtree Hills is less community-focused than Virginia-Highland or Ansley Park and lacks a strong identity. It is mostly a convenient place to live rather than a destination.

Pros:

Cons:

Virginia-Highland is a recognizable, popular area in Atlanta near Midtown. It’s known for its tree-lined streets of cute cafes and restaurant patios. Also known as VaHi, this neighborhood is comfortable, safe, and near hotspots like Piedmont Park and Midtown.

A commute from VaHi to Buckhead is about 5 miles, which is a disadvantage to some who want to avoid rush hour traffic. Still, the promise of great restaurants and shopping, a few pocket parks, and BeltLine access is enough for many to call this neighborhood home.

Because of the proximity to Midtown and Ponce City Market, most quality apartments here are expensive, running about $1,900 for a one-bedroom apartment.

Pros:

Cons:

Morningside/Lenox Park is a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood just east of Ansley Park and north of Virginia-Highland. People rent here for proximity to Piedmont Park, the BeltLine, Ansley Mall, and restaurants on Highland Avenue.

Morningside/Lenox Park is a safe and quiet neighborhood full of historic homes and walkable residential pockets, much like VaHi. If you lived in Morningside, you might find yourself at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Lenox-Wildwood Park, or the Daniel Johnson Nature Preserve for outdoor recreation.

The Morningside Farmers Market is a major draw for the community, serving as proof of the neighborhood’s friendly atmosphere and authentic character.

Other than the market, there aren’t tons of convenient grocery options. Residents tend to shop at the Sprouts on Piedmont Avenue or at Ansley Mall.

In addition, there are no major highways bordering or running through this neighborhood, making commutes to Buckhead more complex.

Pros:

Cons:

Chastain Park is the only neighborhood listed here that is north of Buckhead Village. Eponymously named, this neighborhood is anchored by Chastain Memorial Park, a popular spot for golfing, walking or jogging, and bringing kids.

For those who love weekend jogs on a scenic trail, outdoor concerts, easy restaurant options, and brunch, living in Chastain Park is wonderful. You’re only two to three miles from Buckhead’s center and have a commercialized strip of food and shopping options on Roswell Road.

Of course, since this is the most upscale neighborhood of the bunch, apartment options here can be more expensive, potentially above $2,000 for a one-bedroom apartment.

If you’re a Buckhead professional looking for accessible, modern living near your workplace, Treeline Ansley is your answer.

Located in Ansley Park between Buckhead, Piedmont Park, and Midtown, our newly renovated apartments offer the convenience you’ve been seeking in a charming and safe neighborhood.

Spend your weekends walking the BeltLine, finding your favorite restaurant only minutes from your apartment, and spending as little time possible commuting.

Check out our one, two, and three-bedroom floorplans for rent and beautiful on-site amenities and schedule a tour to discover an effortless style of living in Atlanta at Treeline Ansley!

You’ve landed a job in Buckhead but don’t want to live directly in Buckhead.
